Subjective Assessments Frisco, TX

Subjective assessments are less focused on facts, per se, but rather, focused on your child’s perspectives and opinions.  You (mom and dad) may think that their child has 8 good friends, so they are socially doing well.  During the assessment, it is not uncommon to find that the child agrees with the parents or that they tell me that they really have only 1-2 good friends from that group.

This allows me to learn more about your child’s inner world, desires, fears, dreams, and how they see themselves and their role both at home and at school.  The child’s perception is key to understanding the big picture of what their life is like for them.

Subjective assessments allow Dr. Jimenez to use her training as a counselor (she studied this formally for 8 years after all!) to gain even more insight into your child’s inner world.  Sometimes things come up in the subjective assessments that bring the whole assessment into focus.

It is instrumental to the assessment process to come alongside your child and to understand how they see themselves in their home and academic lives.

Understanding Your Child's Point of View

This is a process of your child drawing and talking with Dr. Jimenez during the assessment appointment.  Much like the parent interview that Dr. Jimenez does with parents before the assessment appointment, Dr. Jimenez asks your child age-appropriate questions that are similar in nature to what she asked you in order to be able to further understand your child’s world, thoughts, ideas, feelings, and perceptions.  Dr. Jimenez does drawings with your child to get further insight into how they view their role at school and at home.

Dr. Jimenez has been formally trained as a counselor for 8 years and loves to use her skills to help others.  While she uses many of her counseling skills in speaking with parents, interacting with your child, and in providing assessment feedback to parents, she is also able to garner additional information as she uses her counseling skills to interview your child and to guide them with the drawings used in the assessment.

These drawings are a general help in learning more about your child and it is important to remember that the drawings are not relied upon greatly as they are so subjective and this is not a forensic interview.  These are drawings used to demonstrate how your child views their roles and experiences at home and in school.
