ADHD Screening in Frisco,TX

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, including inattentive and hyperactive types, is a diagnosis the seems to be thrown around quite a bit and is a real concern for parents.  However, children may have issues with inattention or hyperactivity due to many reasons other than having ADHD.  In other words, ADHD is not the only reason a child or adolescent may struggle with attention issues.  Sometimes children are dealing with symptoms of anxiety, depression, or life circumstances that show up looking like ADHD.  This screener helps us determine if the behaviors and habits of your child are likely due to ADHD or something else.  This is incredibly important because if a child is suffering from anxiety or depression, but are being treated for ADHD, they are typically either not being helped at all or are learning to mask their feelings.  Likewise, if a child is suffering from ADHD, but are receiving help for only anxiety or depression, they are not being served.

The benefit to adding the screening for symptoms of ADHD are many. For instance, this screener helps to distinguish from ADHD and attention issues that are within normal limits for someone of the age and gender of your child (that means it answers the question—Is this ADHD or normal behavior?), it helps to determine if the symptoms are diagnosable as ADHD or if they are something else, and if the behaviors are happening more at home or at school or equally in both environments.  Some level of inattention happens to all of us—find out if this is normal for your child or if they might have ADHD.

Our ADHD Screening Process

The screening for symptoms of ADHD comes in the form of a survey that is filled out by mom, dad, and at least one school teacher or counselor.  This allows for many different perspectives of the child in different environments because ADHD is not limited to one person, interaction, or setting.  It affects the child consistently.

Dr. Jimenez has many years of experience working with children and adolescents with ADHD symptoms.  She ran a group specifically for children diagnosed with ADHD for many years while working in Georgia.  The group was intended to help the children and adolescents develop coping skills and tools to help them redirect their attention, stay focused, and organize their lives in ways that made sense to them.  She takes all those skills and uses them in the recommendations portion of the assessment process.
