Parent Interview
This is the first component of an assessment. In this 1.5 to 2.5 hour interview, Dr. Jimenez will sit down with both mom and dad to get a detailed history of your child and their life up to this point. This includes pregnancy to present day. These questions help paint a picture of your child’s development—socially, academically, athletically, etc.
You will benefit directly from this first portion of the assessment because it will likely provide some insight for you into how life up to this point may be affecting your child. Sometimes it can be hard to know how things affect our children because we don’t get a chance to talk about life in such terms as Dr. Jimenez will do with you. Not often do we tell the story of our family from beginning to present in one sitting.
This interview itself can be an enlightening, encouraging, and growing experience.
The parent interview gives us a big picture view of your child’s experiences, challenges, strengths, and efforts to this point. You already know that your child is more than whatever they are going through. I believe that and honor that by learning about them and the family during this time. This is also a great time for you as parents to get to know me better and for you to ask me any questions you have for me and address any concerns.
The Assessment Process
As mentioned previously, the assessment process is a four part process. It requires 3 appointments:
- The parent interview with mom and dad.
- The assessment with Dr. Jimenez and your child.
The parent feedback appointment with Dr. Jimenez and parents to informally discuss the results of the assessments, the big picture about what it all means, and recommendations for home and school.
Receiving the formally written and detailed assessment report mailed to your home.
Dr. Jimenez has worked with children and adolescents for her entire adult life. She is passionate about helping younger ones by helping the children themselves directly through therapy and through providing assessments to help get a big picture of the child’s family, school, and inner life. Dr. Jimenez loves to give back to her community in this way. She works within the model of wellness to assess your child which means that she sees your child for all that they are, not just as a number on a test, a diagnosis, or a problem. Children are a gift.
Dr. Jimenez is eager to ease the burden of children in today’s world and to help them thrive by empowering the parents with the tools and knowledge they need to help and advocate for their children!
