Motor Skills Testing in Frisco, TX

Motor skills testing helps Dr. Jimenez to be able to know if your child’s motor skills are on track with their developmental level or not.  This kind of motor skills testing helps Dr. Jimenez know if your child’s motor skills are about the same as other children their age, more advanced than others their own age, or less developed than others their own age.

If something atypical shows up in this assessment, recommendations may include physical or occupational therapy or simply some activities to help with hand-eye coordination, fine motor skill development, or gross motor skill development.

Knowing if your child’s handwriting issues, fine motor skills, or gross motor skills are developmentally normal is invaluable.  If there are abnormalities, there may be neurological, visual, or physical issues that need to be addressed.

Recommendations may include seeking help from an occupational or physical therapist to help your child.  Sometimes, depending on the rest of the assessment, even a visual exam may be recommended.

How Is The Motor Skills Assessment Performed?

Motor skills testing is a 3-part assessment that involves your child drawing inside small lines, tracing or recreating figures, and identifying figures which differ slightly with small details.  This is one-on-one testing between your child and Dr. Jimenez which takes place during the assessment appointment.

Why Choose Dr. Jimenez?

Dr. Jimenez worked in the medical field as an urgent care tech full time for about 4 years.  In that position, she learned much about the medical field and how important motor skills are to a person’s development, neural wiring, coordination, and handwriting.  Later, she earned her master’s degree in rehabilitation counseling which is a specialization in how physical disabilities or difficulties can influence one’s mental health.  She is passionate about ensuring that the body-brain connection is not ignored in assessing any child or teen.

It would be a disservice to your child and family to neglect motor skills as an area of evaluation.
